One year on;

On the 1st of December 2010, I was walking the streets of London with L and the place resembled something very close to the image above. Christmas lights were up, the snow had just flown and the place felt so magical.

Everyone thought I was crazy to go traveling in the winter time especially because Perth was heating up to 30 degrees most days but as soon as I touched down in London, I felt at home.

Maybe it’s the Russian in me but that was my first white christmas in 15 years. I bought a christmas sweater for roughly 15 pounds and then L & I got a christmas tree and decorations. We had two other Australian girls join us as orphans in London & it was one of the best christmas’s ever.

Christmas 2010

Now fast forward one year and every part of my body wishes I was back there. Whenever I hear Tina mention christmas preparation in Sweden, all of me gets a little sadder each time.

I think I belong in the Northern hemisphere. Now I just need to get through the next 3 years of uni & then I can move there. Until then, it will just have to be holidays!

Grizzled

Nero playing his new unreleased single, title unknown. Monday 25th April 2011.

On Monday night, I went to a gig called Grizzled where Skism, Trolley Snatcha, Foreign Beggars & Nero played. Last time Trolley Snatcha and Foreign Beggars were in Perth, I missed them so it was good to finally see them. Nero on the other hand, I’ve seen three years in a row now and have never been disappointed.

All artists at Grizzled fall under the dubstep genre, something I started listening to five years ago. In that time, the genre has changed SO much. I did prefer the stuff that was being released five years ago because there were so many artists I enjoyed listening to. But then again, now there’s so few so I guess that’s a good thing when it comes to going out- I don’t go out so much anymore, I’m very picky with where I go.

Especially after Europe and seeing so many artists, I’ve realised my style has changed so much. I’ve realised my heart lies in the UK dub and drum n bass scene, artists that are unlikely to be coming to Perth anytime soon.

Which is a good thing, I can focus on saving to go back! Always find a reason to travel..

My type of guy;

The way girls gush over actors, is similar to how I feel about underground musicians, usually in the hip hop, drum n bass & dubstep scenes.

It wasn’t until I went to London did I realise just how much I love the UK scene, particularly the way guys dress in the above music scenes.

Someone I’ve been paying extra attention to, Professor Green, for his music & style:

I love some of the stuff he’s pulled off here like the stripey rugby jersey & the baseball type jackets.

Now, where can I find myself one of these?

This was a quick picture summary of my 10 week holiday. I’ll be uploading my favourite photos to flickr so will be linking it to this blog once it’s all complete.

Trip of a lifetime;

70 days. 10 weeks. 21 hours of flying one way. 11 countries. 16 cities.

I’m back in Perth from a trip I was afraid to take at one stage. I’m still as jetlag as hell a week later, I no longer have any savings in the bank but NOTHING compares to what I saw, who I met & what I’ve learnt over the past 10 weeks. I’ve come back to Perth with a dozen new friends who share some of the most memorable experiences with me & for once in my life, I’ve come back from a holiday, more certain than ever about my direction in life.
