How ‘Anna Ventures’ was born;

perthtext

I purchased the domain name ‘annaventures.com’ back in May 2012. I was half way through my degree and approaching winter break, thinking five weeks off uni would be the perfect time to launch my dot com. One little thing though…timing. It just wasn’t right. I wasn’t feeling the best physically or mentally and so I quickly abandoned the domain name and carried on with my degree and life.

Fast forward November 2013. I just finished my last exam & hopped on a plane to Melbourne with Tim Ferriss’s book in hand. I’ve been umm’ing and arrr’ing about Melbourne for a few years. The cafes, the laneways, the history, the proximity to the other states. There’s so much I love about Melbourne so every time I come back to Perth, it’s like a ticking time bomb in my head, “Perth or Melbourne?”

So having read Tim Ferriss’s book, ‘The 4 hour work week’, I felt like I didn’t absorb it like I should have because before long, I was back on the east coast and then in New Zealand for a few weeks before coming back to Perth & getting stuck into my property license. It wasn’t until I had a conversation with a somewhat stranger in Brisbane in February 2014 that everything clicked together.

I don’t have to choose between Perth and Melbourne. Or Perth and Auckland. Or Auckland and California. Because lets face it, my heart has been scattered across far too many locations to call just ONE city “home”.

And in true Anna style, it’s all come together very quickly. When I am so, so certain about something, I will go out of my way to make it happen. So what can you expect from this blog from today onwards? that I can’t answer right now. But just know, I have declared my intentions to the Universe and I’m SO ready for all the changes to come.

Date a girl who travels;

You may have seen a post floating about recently titled, “Don’t date a girl that travels” which basically says that a girl who travels is hard to please, she can’t hold a steady job, she’s wasted her college degree and switched her career completely.

I don’t agree with any of the above statements & I’m glad I found this little gem by Steph at Steph Abroad, exampling why you should, “date a girl who travels”

Date a girl who travels

“She is the one with the sun kissed skin and lightly scattered freckles. A sense of wellness radiates around her, paired with plump healthy skin and a twinkle in her eye.

Date a girl who travels. She is less materialistic. She doesn’t dote on possessions but rather treasured experiences. Expensive presents are unnecessary, rather give her photographs she can have with her at all times. She can see those that live with less, recognise the small fortunes of happiness.

Date a girl who travels for somewhere is always home. She values her time there and relishes hearing about normalcy even if it’s not long before her feet start to itchy again. She is proud of her hometown for it is a new city for someone else to explore.

Date a girl who travels. She is the hardest working woman you will know. She will most likely hold down 2 or 3 jobs to fund her adventures. Not to mention an entrepreneur turning her travels into an income source. She is smart and knows that these days employers find international travel favourable in future candidates.

Date a girl who travels for you will always be pleasantly surprises. She navigates unknown cities with a great sense of direction but also enjoys the spontaneity of getting lost.

Date a girl who travels. After many missed flights, wrong turns, delays, bad street food and bad restrooms to deposit said food, she is easy going and adaptable. She is prepared for bumps in the road literally and metaphorically. Life throws curve balls and she smacks them right out of the park.

Date a girl who travels because she is supportive and understanding. She is conscious you may not ever be as travel orientated as her but she will always be fun, take what life has to offer and help you do the same. As a bonus, she will put up with snoring and farting because she has shared a 20 bunk hostel room.

Date a girl who travels as she engages with worldly company learning the history, culture and behaviours of societies, which is sure to impress the parents. She is used to befriending strangers, thriving at conversation. She will always be open to meeting new people and impress at your work social engagements.

Date a girl who travels. She is independent, smart and strong. She will always be self-sufficient; never needy. She doesn’t believe in stage five clingers. She knows the rewards of good budgets and saving her money. She learns the ins and outs of how people live and has the kind of street smarts that will spot the sketchy looking guy a mile away before he pulls a “distract and go” scam.

Next time, join her. Travel bonds you”

Two years ago;

At the beginning of August 2010, I wrote my first wordpress entry saying:

“My new mission is to keep this journal. And by keep, I mean update regularly. My range of online journals is a good estimation of my personality. I dedicate myself solely to people and things for certain periods of time. Eventually I grow bored and find other things to occupy my time. Writing has always been constant in my life. The places I have written have always changed.

Let’s see how long this lasts”

Three hundred and forty three posts later, I would say I’ve been updating pretty regularly (considering I used Winter of Lust while I was in Europe for 10 weeks). Looking back over some of my earlier posts, there’s so many adventures & moments I didn’t capture on here so I guess the goal for the next two years would be just that: write about the small things, the things I don’t think are worth mentioning & the somewhat private thoughts (that won’t get me in trouble). Here’s hoping I can keep one online journal…it’s definitely lasted longer than my last attempt in 2009!

Thank you all for reading!

Just breathe;

Two years ago, I got a tattoo on my forearm saying “breathe” as seen here, as a constant reminder to stop and appreciate life, not to get too wound up and remember to step away from certain situations. It works on most occasions when my forearm is in sight….other times? not so much.

After not working for the past two days due to stress related reasons, this post ‘Have you overloaded your life?’ couldn’t have popped up at a better time. Now excuse me while I have a bath & read Scoop like Yaz has recommended!

Happy weekend all! x

Let’s Write: How Do You Relax?

Happy Monday! I now love Monday’s thanks to Mumma in Heels. This weeks Let’s Write topic is: ‘How Do You Relax?’

The things I do to relax depend on how much time I have. If I need a little bit of time out from study or work, I take a walk around the block. Just 5 minutes of fresh air does wonders. Work is very cool with this because they understand that a stressed brain is a useless brain.

If it’s half an hour, I like to take a bath & read a book. If I’m at home, I’ll sometimes take my book outside and sit on the deck (we face a park which has a relaxing effect on you).

If I have a few hours to spare, I like to go to the beach in summer and just walk and then go for a paddle or if it’s cold, I go to the indoor pools and then have a sauna after. I am a complete water rat!

Another one of my (new) favourites which can take between 2-20 minutes is meditating. I only recently learnt how to meditate…I have never been able to silence my brain until last week! It’s the perfect workplace technique when I don’t have enough time to go for a walk or I feel like I’m too far in the moment. A little bit of meditation helps settle my mind.

But how could I forget my number one relaxant these days….tea. A cup of camomile with honey makes everything better.

I’ve realised one thing though: my idea of relaxing is a solo mission. I get tired round others so the above are ways I recharge my batteries & readjust.

Now it’s your turn! Do you have some tips I’ve missed? I’ve love to know!

Fascinated;

Every now and then, I randomly stumble across blogs that blow me away. Whether it’s the words or the photos, these pages get instantly saved to my favourites.

Tonight, I came across the blog of We Live Young, a 19 year old photographer with so much talent, it’s mind blowing. I feel like I’ve taken a walk down memory lane and I’m looking into my life 10 years ago. I just don’t come across photos like that these days.

It’s just funny the timing of it all. Just this morning, I got into a conversation with a lady about how much I miss experimenting with photography because all I ever do these days is work or study. Coming across this blog has only made me more certain about my direction.

Inspiration;

Guys with WordPress: Have you ever clicked on any of those blogs on the homepage?

I guess it was out of boredom the other day but I discovered this amazing blog by Zack, an American entrepreneur living in Buenos Aires.

I am completely hooked on his writing and tips and most importantly, this latest blog post, “8 Simple Philosophies That Changed My Life”

If there’s one thing you should do today, it is to subscribe to his blogs.
