Farewell Borders!

If there’s one place that represents the past three years at my current job, that place is Borders Bookstore. I go there at least once a week on my lunch break, sometimes more. I love seeing what new books have come in, what books I need to buy & what other things I can add to my wishlist.

This morning the sad news came: Borders is shutting down. It’s quite funny the timing of it all. Borders is shutting down the same month I finish up at my current job after three years and it’s like that chapter of my life is coming to an end. I didn’t even wait until my lunch break to go today, I rushed out at 10 am (the good thing about work being so flexible). I picked up a few things, no doubt I will definitely be back again to get a few more things.

I picked up two notebooks and a book to read. I really couldn’t help myself when I saw this New York notebook! What perfect motivation for me to get saving! I haven’t read a book since the beginning of the year because I’ve been so busy with uni but it’s finally time to start reading for pleasure!

“What makes us tick?” sounds really interesting as it goes onto explain our desires to believe in something, to connect, to be useful, to belong, for more, for control and for love. Those chapters pretty much sum up my life at the moment so I’ll let you know how the book goes!

  1. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE book shops! I always spend a couple of hours at Barnes&Noble and/or other bookshops when I go to the US. We have big book shops here in Sweden but it’s just not the same. I love having such a huge variety of books and so many in english and all the magazines and notebooks… mmm! I can’t wait to go to Barnes&Noble and pile up a bunch of books and then grab a coffee at the adjoining Starbucks and go through which ones I want to buy.

That book you bought sounds REALLY interesting, you’ll definitely have to let me know what you think so I know if I should get it when I go to the US. Also absolutely love that New York notebook. I’m such a notebook junkie! 🙂

    • I LOVE Barnes & Nobles! I spent hours in that store when I was in California, it’s such an amazing place! My friend actually recommended a book website, http://www.bookdepository.co.uk, everything is so cheap on there! Have you heard of Kelly Cutrone? I got her first book 😀

I am a notebook junkie also! I always go for different ones these days, the prettier the better! haha

      • Thanks for that link!! I see they have free delivery worldwide (awesome!), have you (or your friend) ever ordered from the site – are they trustworthy? I might actually order a couple of books from that site. I love shopping books IRL and it used to be that it was cheaper to buy books in the US because of the exchange rate, and buying english/international books in Sweden is SO expensive. But now the cheapest option is to buy online, especially if I don’t want my suitcases to be overweight on the way home!

      • yes two friends from work have & I ordered a book on Thursday! The book was half the price and free shipping, so worth it!

Definitely want to save your luggage for all the other amazing stuff over there!
